Public paychecks: The highest-paid Mecklenburg County employees

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Of Mecklenburg County's more than 5,600 employees, 325 make six-figure salaries, according to CBJ research.

County Manager Dena Diorio is Mecklenburg County's highest-paid employee, with an annual salary of about $327,000. She is followed by chief medical examiner Dr. Thomas Owens, county attorney Tyrone Wade, assistant county manager for sustainable communities Leslie Johnson, and Lee Keesler, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library's CEO.

From sheriffs to librarians to social workers, the average salary is close to $58,000.
