Public transportation ban could happen in future, Charlotte mayor says

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The city of Charlotte said a public transportation ban is not in consideration at this time, but Mayor Vi Lyles’ said Friday that there’s a chance one could be implemented in the future.

CATS has already made adjustments because of COVID-19.

“At some point, there might be a chance we have to stop public transportation during this surge. So I don’t have an answer that is yes or no. I have an answer that we are going to look at this carefully,” said Lyles.

Light rails and buses undergo extensive cleaning, are running less frequently and riders are told to exit through the rear door on buses.
