CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A pump failure caused 5,880 gallons of sewage to overflow into the Clems Branch in the Catawba River Watershed Wednesday afternoon.
The location is near 16790 Lancaster Highway.
The pump station replacement project will be starting soon and a new pump station will be in service in 2019.

“A majority of wastewater overflows can be prevented with your help,” Charlotte Water spokesperson Cam Coley said. “Anything put in plumbing or a manhole can cause wastewater overflows, spilling raw sewage into your street, your creek, or even inside your own home. Even products labeled as ‘flushable’ do not break down in the sewer system and can contribute to clogging.”
