Queen City Bowl ends in tie, Charlotte keeps crown

CHARLOTTE — After a week of friendly competition between the city of Charlotte and the city of Cincinnati, neither city took the victory of the first Queen City Bowl.

Sunday's game between the Carolina Panthers and Cincinnati Bengals took an unexpected twist, ending in a 37-37 tie in overtime. The online poll results mirror the closeness of the game; however, voters named Charlotte the real "Queen City" with 51 percent of the vote.

"This was an exciting game for both cities. It was great to see so many Charlotte residents and businesses participating in the competition," said Mayor Dan Clodfelter. "The Panthers and Bengals both played an extraordinary game. Since the game ended in a tie, we are willing to share the title of Queen City with Cincinnati. We look forward to the next QC Bowl, when we can end the debate."

As a gesture of friendly sportsmanship, the city of Charlotte will send Cincinnati a gift that symbolizes the spirit of Charlotte.

Two great cities were showcased this week and the city of Charlotte would like to thank its residents, partners, local businesses, the city of Cincinnati, Carolina Panthers, and Cincinnati Bengals for a wonderful campaign and game. Although the debate will likely continue, Charlotte's history proves it will always remain the Queen City.
