Racial slur spray painted at entrance of church in Matthews

MATTHEWS, N.C. — A Matthews church says they are praying for the person responsible for spray painting a racial slur in front of the door.

Channel 9 is not showing a picture because of its vulgar nature.

The church is Jonesville AME Zion Church.

The church does have security cameras inside, but it did not catch the vandalism.

“As Christians we are going to forgive the individual, but our mission is still the same,” said Senior Pastor David Gadsden. “We are going to continue to be a positive force in the Matthews community and beyond.”

The church did file a police report.

We reached out to Matthews police for comment. We’re waiting to hear back.
