WAXHAW, N.C. — On Wednesday the son of former Carolina Panthers player, Rae Carruth, celebrated his 17th birthday.

Chancellor Lee Adams brought cupcakes to his friends at Misty Meadows farm where he takes horseback riding lessons.

Chancellor’s mother, Cherica Adams, was killed when she was eight months pregnant with him.

Chancellor’s grandmother, Saundra Adams, told Channel 9 that they plan to be there when Carruth is released in 2018.

Carruth is in prison for orchestrating her murder.

“We do plan to be there and it's not any confrontational kind of visit. I just want him to see his son and see how far he's come and how well he's doing,” she said.

She also said that Chancellor is excelling at school and enjoys interacting with his classmates and teachers.

Just last year, Saundra Adams invited Channel 9 cameras into their home exclusively and said that she hopes one day she, Chancellor and Carruth can speak to groups together as an example of the power of forgiveness.
