CHARLOTTE — A rare type of firefly called the blue ghost was discovered in Mecklenburg County.
They are typically found in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Instead of yellow-green lights, these fireflies emit a steady glow that can look bluish-white.
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation says two environmental educators spotted about 30 of them flying around during a firefly atlas survey.
