Real estate roundup: The Charlotte area’s newest residential projects

CHARLOTTE — More details recently came to light on a high-profile land deal on the edge of South End. Texas-based Aspen Heights Partners, after being under contract on six parcels at the southeast corner of Mint and Morehead streets for about a year, closed on that property in April and revealed it would develop a 17-story multifamily tower there.

The developer said it broke ground last month on that $166 million project — aptly called Mint & Morehead, which will bring 393 studio-, one- and two-bedroom units to the 1.4-acre site and transform the current strip of long-standing, one-story buildings.

That multifamily project joins several more underway across the Charlotte region.

About 3 miles away, in lower South End, work has started on a 310-unit, six-story building with ground-floor retail at 3441 South Blvd. — called South & Hollis.

In the University area, renovations are ongoing to convert the former TownePlace Suites at 8710 Research Drive into 96 apartment units.

And a long-delayed apartment project that broke ground last year at an old mill in the small Gaston County city of Belmont is making progress.
