North Carolina House Rep. Charles Jeter (R- Huntersville) told Channel 9 he is resigning his House seat and dropping his re-election bid.
In the spring, Jeter survived a contentious primary fight. He defeated Tom Davis, running on an anti-toll platform, by 35 votes.
The Huntersville lawmaker then sponsored anti-toll legislation that passed in House with bipartisan support in the most recent session.
Jeter was one of several lawmakers absent from the House Bill 2 vote. On Twitter, Jeter said he would have voted against the controversial law.
Republicans will now have to choose someone to run in Jeter's place. Attorney and Steele Creek resident Chaz Beasley is running for Jeter's seat on the democratic ticket.
Davis is planning to put in a formal request with GOP Executive Committee to take Jeter's spot running for District 92.
