CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Republican City Councilman Kenny Smith announced Thursday morning that he has tossed his hat into the race for Charlotte's mayor.
He made the announcement on Park Road, and so far, is the only Republican who has expressed interest in running.
On the Democratic side, current mayor Jennifer Roberts, mayor pro-tem Vi Lyles and Sen. Joel Ford have said they're running.
The primary is in September.
