CHARLOTTE, N.C. — SWAT team members and negotiators managed to convince an armed man barricaded inside a northeast Charlotte apartment to come out peacefully early Thursday morning.

Officers were not allowing anyone into the Hunters Pointe Apartments, off Prospect Drive near Interstate 85 in the Hidden Valley neighborhood, after calling SWAT to the scene around 5:15 a.m.

Police said that family members who were inside the apartment called 911 and told them a male relative was inside the apartment and armed with a weapon, refusing to let them leave.

Officers told Channel 9 that there were children in the apartment.

When police arrived, that armed man barricaded himself inside of the apartment, officials said.

Negotiators and the SWAT team were called to the apartment complex while residents who lived near the unit were evacuated and placed on CATS buses to stay warm.

The man eventually surrendered peacefully around 7:15 a.m and was taken into custody without incident.

His name has not yet been released. Nobody was hurt.
