RALEIGH — Lawmakers passed a bill that would make sure people in rural parts of North Carolina have access to the Internet.

Supporters of the bill said Internet access is as important as basic utilities, including water and electricity.
The bill got its final stamp of approval Tuesday from the General Assembly.
