BELMONT, N.C. — About two dozen officials and residents attended a meeting in Belmont over a possible contaminated mill site.

An old dye mill dumped toxic chemicals for years on the land along Linestowe Drive.

Developers will get a 50 percent property tax cut if they clean up the toxins.

That will allow them to possibly vote in new council members who would cancel the project.

Residents voiced their concerns about building on top of that land and are asking a judge to put everything on hold until after next week’s elections.
