Restaurant Bites: What’s new and coming soon to a menu near you

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Another month, another round of challenges for Charlotte’s restaurant industry.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continued to present hurdles for business owners in August, as more establishments shuttered — some on a temporary basis and others, including a wine bar in uptown, permanently. Adding to the difficult environment, local private clubs that serve food faced confusion around whether they had to shut down during phase 2 per the governor’s executive order. And popular food festival Taste of Charlotte decided to pull the plug on its 2020 uptown event, which had been rescheduled for September; the next festival is now slated for June 11-13, 2021.

Still, a few establishments joined the local restaurant scene in August and other concepts are forging ahead with plans to open in the coming months.
