UNION COUNTY, N.C. — A section of Union County road will be closed for at least eight hours due to a major gas leak, the Union County Sheriff’s Office stated shortly before 2 p.m. on Thursday in a Facebook post.

Drivers should avoid the area of Middleton, Potter, and Fincher roads, and Piersland Drive.
A main gas line was struck, and utility crews are on scene making repairs, the sheriff said.
Motorists are urged to use alternative routes and expect delays.
