GASTONIA, N.C. — President Donald Trump will be in Gastonia campaigning for U.S. Senate candidate Michael Whatley on Wednesday.
Whatley announced the visit on his X account Thursday, saying he is “thrilled to welcome POTUS to my home of Gastonia.”
Whatley is taking on Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Roy Cooper in November’s general election. He’s previously attacked Cooper on his decisions as North Carolina’s governor.
Cooper’s campaign responded to the announcement of the visit, writing in part “it’s no surprise Whatley’s DC-insider friends are going to try to bail him out.”
The event will be held at the Gastonia Municipal Airport, starting at 7 p.m.
Road closures and restrictions will be in place throughout the day, starting as early as 10 a.m. in some areas. Officials say the closures will continue through the evening as needed.
