NEWELL, N.C. — A road has reopened in Newell after a gas line was damaged Saturday morning, officials said.
According to Piedmont Natural Gas, Katherine Kiker Road, which intersects with Faires Farm Road, was closed for several hours in both directions, while crews worked to fix the line.

Residents were not be able to go in or outside the neighborhood while it was being fixed.
Officials have not said what caused the damage at this point.
