‘Resilient and courageous’: Rock Hill police officer, son of NC chief, dies of cancer

ROCK HILL, S.C. — The Rock Hill Police Department is mourning after losing one of its beloved officers to cancer.

Officer Trevor Arrowood passed away Tuesday after a relentless fight with the disease, according to the department.

Arrowood, 25, started with the department in 2017, following in his father’s footsteps in law enforcement after graduating from Western Carolina University.

Rock Hill police issued a statement Wednesday on the department’s Facebook praising Arrowood’s service and commitment to the job.

“Officer Arrowood may have left us, but the legacy he leaves behind will not be forgotten,” the department stated in the post.

Arrowood worked as a patrol officer up until his first diagnosis. After undergoing treatment, he returned to the job until a second diagnosis. He began treatment again and fought to return to police work.

“In between treatments, Officer Arrowood would still serve the Rock Hill Community by taking reports by phone and answering numerous calls for police that did not require an in-person response. Officer Arrowood was relentless in his fight and amazed everyone with the tenacity he showed each day working through his treatment,” the post read.

Arrowood is the son of Tryon Police Chief Jeff Arrowood. Tryon is in Polk County, which is about 90 miles west of Rock Hill and Charlotte.

A police procession in his honor was held Tuesday in Polk County.
