ROCK HILL, S.C. — A month after a deadly shooting at the Peach Stand in Fort Mill, the community is rallying to help the family of Karson Whitesell, the worker who was killed.
In just three hours, Nishie G’s Café in Rock Hill raised $3,500 selling barbecue meals Saturday afternoon.
All of the proceeds will go to Whitesell’s family.
Last weekend, Whitesell would have turned 20 years old.

Her family celebrated her life by volunteering at Whitesell's church, and then her friends released balloons at the Peach Stand.
Her mother started "Karson's Kompassion Project" to care for those who need extra love and attention.
Fort Mill police said Christopher Mendez shot and killed Whitesell. The shooting was random, police said, and the two did not know each other.
Mendez's father told Channel 9 his son has a history mental problems.
