FORT MILL, S.C. — South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster visited Fort Mill for an event Thursday afternoon.
He participated in a ceremony to honor hometown heroes and champions at 4:30 p.m. at Fort Mill’s New Amphitheater inside Walter Y. Elisha Park.

Retired Police Chief, Jess Helms, was awarded the Order of the Palmetto -- the state’s highest Civilian Honor to recognize a lifetime of service.
Helm’s served Fort Mills for 27 years.
The event also recognized the success of several youth sports teams.
