BEAUFORT, S.C. — It can be easy to lose your belongings at the beach, but thanks to a viral Facebook post, a South Carolina man has been reunited with something very personal.

Merritt Yeager said almost two weeks ago, he lost his prosthetic ear swimming off the Florida Gulf Coast.

He said it can come off like magnets and it's very easy to lose if you're not careful.

"My wife, she heard me go 'Oh no,'" Yeager said. "She saw it bobbing in the surf for a moment, almost had it, but the water took it away."

He said it was devastating news since it was the second time in three months he had lost the prosthetic.

Luckily, a beachgoer found it. The prothetic washed on a nearby shore days later and they turned it into police.

"She said it was very sandy and in good shape," Yeager said. "By the photos, I'm surprised it wasn't sandblasted into nothing."

Friday, Yeager as reconnected and reunited with his prosthetic ear thanks to a Facebook post by the Holmes Police Department.
