ROCK HILL, S.C. — A South Carolina father who left four children alone inside a truck with a gun and a box of bullets will spend 90 days in jail, Channel 9's partner, The Herald, reported.
Jason Grant, 39, was first sentenced to probation in June, after he admitted he left his children ages 13, 11, 7 and 5 in his truck while he sat in a Rock Hill gas station for four hours.
Prosecutors asked for a harsher sentence, but Grant received probation because he did not have a criminal record and he participated in drug court in 2007 for substance abuse.
Grant has since been arrested twice by probation agents for drugs and other violations.
On Friday, the judge sentenced him to jail and not prison, because Grant asked for mercy and said he had previously falsely confessed to using drugs. The judge warned Grant his leniency would run out if he returned to court again after the 90 days.
Grant will go back on probation after serving his sentence.
