CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police charged a Charlotte mother with a felony when they found a gun in her car at an elementary school.
Officers arrested Cheryl Ashbee-Jones and charged her with having a gun on school grounds.
Police said Jones was on her way to David Cox Road Elementary School to drop off her child when she thought she was being followed. She called 911 and told dispatchers she keeps a gun in the car.
"No parent, or nobody, should bring a gun on a school premises where kids are," parent Robert Greer said.
But when officers showed up, they forced the school into a lockdown and arrested Jones.
Jones does have a permit for the gun.
Eyewitness News called her, but we're still waiting to hear back.
