CHARLOTTE — Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina released the annual “State of Hunger in the Metrolina Region” report Tuesday in honor of Hunger Action Day.
Second Harvest said they’ve helped feed 200,000 more people in 2026 than the year before.
According to the nonprofit, the latest data shows 500,000 people are facing food insecurity across the 24 counties it serves. Of those people, 152,000 are children and 73,000 are seniors.
“You can help by donating food, donating funds,” Second Harvest CEO Kay Carter said. “If people are listening out there today, that’s the best way to help — host a food drive, host a fund drive, and volunteer.”
Perdue Farms also donated 40,000 pounds of chicken to the food bank after the press conference.
Second Harvest Food Bank assists families facing hunger in 14 North Carolina counties and 10 counties in South Carolina.
