COLUMBIA, S.C. — Two months ago, no one knew who Sen. Darline Graham was.
Now she’s heading into November’s race as the heavy favorite in the race for the seat vacated by her late brother.
In many ways, Sen. Graham has two people to thank: President Donald Trump and Congressman Russel Fry.
President Trump held a rally in Horry County last Friday and Horry County voters delivered for her. She took 73% of the vote there. It’s the county with the second highest turnout.
Russell Fry’s District 7 stretches from Horry County to Chesterfield County. Graham won all of the counties in this district. Rep. Fry endorsed Graham after he finished third in the primary.
It has been a whirlwind of a month for Sen. Graham. In her victory speech, she paid tribute to her brother.
“I have mixed emotions right now. I am still feeling grief, heartache and immense gratitude. During the last few weeks I’ve heard how my brother has touched the state,” Graham said. “Thank you Lindsey for your service to this country. It is not the same without you here.”
Her attention now turns to her democratic opponent Annie Andrews, who is launching a TV ad campaign Wednesday.
Graham called Andrews the most radical Democrat to ever be on a statewide ticket.
