CORNELIUS, N.C. — Recent severe weather has kept local contractors busy.
Ronald Grant has lived in his Cornelius house for more than four years, and after a series of leaks and a recent hole in his garage ceiling, he decided it's time for a new roof.
Roofers with Atlantic Construction Solutions went to Grant's home Tuesday to take a look at the toll years of severe weather have taken on his roof.
Atlantic is accredited with the Better Business Bureau. But the BBB said it sees an increase in the number of customer complains this time of year when it comes to problems with some roofing companies.
Atlantic's owner, John Laub, said in some cases, companies will come from out of state looking to make a quick buck, especially after a severe storm.
"They're just looking to grab as many checks as they can, and sometimes they'll do a shoddy job on the roof. Sometimes they won't even do the roof," Laub said.
Grant said over the years, he's had a number of people knock on his door asking if they can take a look at his roof.
"Surely they were going to find some damage and put big chalk circles on my roof and tell me that I needed a new roof, and that's the business they were in. But they never really gave me a whole lot of detail about where the problems where, what needed to be done," said Grant.
Laub suggests using local companies who have a good rating with the BBB and looking for local reviews of their work.
