Sheriff: 2 arrested after agents find methamphetamine in truck

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Two people were arrested Wednesday after officials suspected them of distributing methamphetamine, according to the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office.

Agents with the Sheriff's Office Ice Unit and an officer with Granite Falls Police Department conducted surveillance at a place believed to be a potential meeting site for drug deals.

Police said Roger Dale Franklin Sr., 51, of Lenoir, and Destiny Nicole Miller, 26, of Lenior, showed up at the place in a 1992 Dodge truck.

Police said Miller got out of the truck and met with another person in the back of the vehicle. Officers said they observed suspicious activity of what appeared to be a drug transaction. Officer then swarmed the truck and arrested Miller and Franklin.

A search was conducted of the Dodge. Police said they found eight packages of methamphetamine and $290 in cash. Officials said the value of the drugs was $600.

Franklin is out on bond for recent drug charges. The Dodge was seized by the Sheriff's Office.

"The officers worked together and brought about positive results for the community," said Sheriff Alan Jones.

Franklin was charged with one count felony maintaining a vehicle to keep or store a controlled substance and one county felony possession with intent to sell or deliver methamphetamine. He is being held under a $100,000 secured bond in the Caldwell County Detention Center.

Miller was charged with one count felony possession of methamphetamine. She was held in the detention center under a $5,000 secured bond.
