Shooting investigation blocks busy southeast Charlotte road for hours

CHARLOTTE — Police blocked off a portion of Monroe Road in southeast Charlotte for hours Friday morning while they investigated a shooting that sent one person to the hospital.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police told Channel 9 the shooting happened near the intersection of Monroe Road and North Sharon Amity Road just after 1:50 a.m.

Officers who arrived at the scene found a man inside a vehicle who had been shot.

MEDIC said that victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Channel 9 crews could see crime scene investigators looking over a white pickup truck before towing it away.

No other information has been released.

Monroe Road was closed between North Sharon Amity and Idlewild roads until 7:30 a.m.
