South Carolina Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry said that the officer was investigating a possible vehicle break-in. When the officer arrived, Berry says both suspects ran off, but one was quickly captured.

The other tried to leave in the vehicle and struck the officer, who shot at the vehicle.

The officer wasn't seriously injured.

The school sent out a message on its Facebook page telling students to stay in their dorms until further notice.

School officials say the lockdown has been lifted and that classes will go on as normal Tuesday.
