GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A Silver Alert has been canceled for a 91-year-old Mount Holly man who has been found dead days after he was reported missing.
Police found Donald Edwin Joy’s car Sunday evening off of 9th Street Drive NW inside the Hickory city limits.

Officials said it appeared Joy’s truck left the roadway, was involved in a crash and he died from his injuries.
Police said Joy may have been suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment.
He was last seen around noon last Wednesday on Kelly Road in Mount Holly. When he disappeared, police said he may have been heading toward town in a 1997 white Mazda B-2300 pickup truck with North Carolina tag XVB-1132.
The Gaston County Police Department said they wanted to thank the community and partner public safety agencies that helped in the search for Joy.
