Six more flu deaths reported in North Carolina last week

RALEIGH, N.C. — Six people died from complications of the flu in North Carolina last week, helping to raise the death toll for the 2019-20 season to 41, health officials said.

In addition to the six deaths reported for the week ending Jan. 18, there were two other deaths from previous weeks, the Winston-Salem Journal reported on Thursday. Of those deaths, four were between the ages of 25 to 49; three were those age 65 and older, and one was 50 to 64.

At this point in the previous flu season, there were 26 deaths in North Carolina.

Of the 41 deaths in North Carolina, 24 were 65 or older; eight were age 50 to 64; eight were 25 to 49 and one was 5 to 17.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services warns that the weekly report count does not represent all flu-associated deaths in the state because many go undiagnosed or unreported.
