CHARLOTTE, NC — Warmer weather is here and that could mean an unwelcome visitor in your home. Tis the season for snakes to come out and start exploring in search of food.

Charlotte resident John Burgin found a snake in his house Tuesday for the second time.

“I stomped my foot on his tail, kept him from getting away, and hollered at my wife to get a plastic cup. [Then I] scooped him up and took him out that way,” said Burgin.

The snake was about 12-14 inches long.

Rick Seifert runs Charlotte's Pest Control Authority. He's already busy this year and even had to death with a nest of copperheads.

“We've had more snake calls last year than the last 20 years, and there's going to be a lot again this year,” he said.

So, what do you do? Seifert says check the outside of your house. Remove piles of mulch or wood near the foundation, and get rid of standing water. Look for small holes where insects can get in and cracks in the foundation. That’s where snakes can get in too.
