CHARLOTTE — Playing for the Charlotte Hornets is about to get a whole lot better.
On Aug. 28, team executives took reporters on a tour of the Hornets’ $190 million training center, scheduled to open next spring — a project that leaves no doubt about the NBA franchise’s willingness to invest in a winning product.
That theme resonated as Alex MacKenzie, the team’s director of basketball facilities, led visiting media members through a maze of construction workers banging away on parts of the building.
At various stops inside the mostly completed shell of the 160,000-square-foot training and team headquarters — to be known as the Novant Health Performance Center — MacKenzie stood next to renderings displayed on easels and explained what the finished version will entail.
“We’ll have a significant amount of the world’s highest level of basketball technology in this space,” MacKenzie said.
