CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man said his 72-year-old mother was tied up, beaten and tortured by a group of teenagers.

Kurt Singleton said one of the teenagers accused in the incident used to do yard work at his mother's home.

He said his mother was kind to the suspect and his family and that's one reason why the attack hurts so much.

Singleton showed pictures of the bruises on his 72-year old mother's face.

He said the three teenagers who broke into her north Charlotte home Sunday, tied  her up, put plastic bags around her head and used the glass from a table, a vase and a wide screen television to repeatedly bash her in the head.

"I'd rather someone beat me like that rather than to beat my mom," Singleton said.

Police charged Sylessa Ford, 17, Myron Bullock, 18, and a 14-year-old boy with the crimes. Police said after the beating, the teens stole the victim's phone and purse and drove off in her car.

Singleton said his mother knows Bullock's family. He said the teen and his older brother used to do yard work for her.

"It's heartbreaking. She's a forgiving person. A good Christian. She loved those boys and that's what hurts because it wasn't random it was targeted," Singleton said.

He said Ford and Bullock were dating and the 14-year-old who was arrested is Bullock's little brother.

He said he wants to see the 14-year-old tried as an adult and wants to see all of them receive the maximum penalty.

"I got a new mission in life. I got to make sure justice is done for my mom," Singleton said.

Bullock and Ford were given court-appointed attorneys Wednesday. They're still in jail and will appear in court again in two weeks.
