Spartanburg man faces more than a dozen charges after leading chase through 4 counties

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A three-hour chase across four counties ended with the capture of a 25-year-old South Carolina man who allegedly stole multiple vehicles, including cars, a UTV and a motorcycle, officials said.

The pursuit, which involved multiple counties and law enforcement agencies, concluded Wednesday with the arrest of Austin Shane Tucker after stop sticks were used to halt one of the stolen vehicles. He now faces more than a dozen charges, including felony flee/elude arrest and possession of stolen motor vehicles, The Herald reports.

The chase ended in Polk County after a car reported stolen in Spartanburg was spotted in Henrietta. Officials said Tucker alternated between running on foot and driving a series of stolen vehicles.

Officials said Tucker was caught in a foot chase after stop sticks were deployed.

He was sent to a Rutherford County hospital for medical clearance, authorities said, and then arrested.

Tucker faces 19 charges including five counts of felony flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle, three counts of possession of stolen motor vehicle, and two counts of failing to heed light or siren.
