CHARLOTTE — The first day of spring has finally arrived, a welcome announcement for most people across the Carolinas.
The new season will officially start at 5:24 p.m. on Monday. Severe Weather Center 9′s Meteorologist Austin Chaney says we can expect big changes.
Daylight hours will increase from 12 hours and 7 minutes to 14 hours and 32 minutes between the first and last days of spring. By June 21, the sun will be setting at 8:41 p.m.
Lows will go from the 30s and 40s to the upper 60s and near 70.

Temperatures will also see a huge jump. Cold nights and cool days are on their way out. The average high will increase from 65 degrees to 88 degrees.
However, with warm temperatures, more rain will be in store for the Queen City. Charlotte picks up 11.57 inches of rain during the spring season, which is roughly 28% of its yearly total.
