Staff member arrested following theft investigation at Randolph County Detention Center

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — On Friday, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received reports of cash being stolen from a staff storage area at the Randolph County Detention Center.

The sheriff’s office began an investigation, and developed evidence that identified a medical staff member assigned to the detention center as the person responsible for the thefts.

Shyrekia McKoy was arrested and taken before a county magistrate for processing. Probable cause was found for misdemeanor larceny.

She was taken into custody, but was later released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.

McKoy is excpected to appear in court on Aug. 31.
