STATESVILLE, N.C. — A 74-year-old Statesville man faces multiple felony charges following a child sexual assault investigation in Iredell County, authorities announced, the Iredell County sheriff announced.
Vicente Medrano Garcia was arrested and charged with four counts of felony first-degree kidnapping and four counts of felony indecent liberties with a child, the sheriff said.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a report regarding the sexual assault of a child on Aug. 30.
The lead investigator determined through evidence and interviews that Garcia had confined and sexually assaulted the child on four separate occasions, the sheriff said.
As part of the inquiry, authorities conducted a forensic interview at the Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center. Detective Olson secured arrest warrants for Garcia on Friday after gathering evidence from the interview and surrounding investigation.
Deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office arrested Garcia and transported him to the Iredell County Detention Center. He appeared before Magistrate Imes, who ordered him held without bond.
Garcia, who is not a United States citizen, is also being held pursuant to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement deportation order. The sheriff’s office noted that Garcia has no prior criminal history in the United States.
