STATESVILLE, N.C. — In response to a string of violent crimes in Statesville, officials with the police department announced that it is adding five part-time officers to the force.

According to Channel 9's partners at the Statesville Record and Landmark, the city began taking applications for the positions Wednesday.
Chief Joe Barone said full-time officers can work part-time in other jurisdictions, so the hiring move is a great way to get veterans in the department.

The part-time positions pay $25 an hour.
