IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A Citation jet went off the runway while landing during a heavy storm Thursday evening at Statesville Regional Airport, temporarily shutting down the airport.
Airport officials said the aircraft, which is based at the airport, landed around 6:25 p.m. before departing the side of the runway and coming to rest in a field within the airport’s boundaries.
Two people were on board, and neither was injured, according to officials.
The airport closed while crews worked to remove the aircraft and inspect the runway. Officials expected operations to resume before midnight. The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the incident.
