CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Steve Belichick, the son of the head football coach at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will resign from his role as the Tar Heels’ defensive coordinator.
The announcement made Thursday comes as an internal investigation into the football program’s culture wraps up.

According to UNC, the investigation found isolated instances where values and standards of conduct were disregarded but says it was not a systemic failure by the program itself.
The probe reportedly examined allegations involving staff and players, including whether Belichick used drugs on the job or provided them to at least one player.
Belichick is on medical leave through Oct. 27. Then, he will resign.
Separately, two UNC football players are also facing gun and speeding charges after a traffic stop last week.
