CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A store employee accused of shooting a man to death inside Carolina Place Mall earlier this year was charged on Tuesday.

Only Channel 9 was there as Thomas Bell Jr. walked into the Mecklenburg County Jail after being charged with carrying a concealed weapon months after the shooting death of 24-year-old Khali Amir Holmes.
"At this point, what he's charged with now is appropriate for this case," Bell's attorney Ken Snow said.
Bell turned himself in on the active warrant.
Snow said they are maintaining self-defense and believe the shooting was justified.
Police said Bell, who was an employee at DTLR clothing store, fired a semi-automatic handgun inside the store on Jan. 13, killing Holmes.
Officers believe Holmes came into the store and started a fight with Bell because of an ongoing dispute between the two men.

The deadly shooting raised questions about safety in local malls, with shoppers questioning how a gun got into the mall in the first place.
According to the mall's code of conduct, firearms or illegal weapons are prohibited.

Police have not said what the dispute between the men was about.
Snow is hopeful Bell will bond out of jail before the case heads to trial.
