Student arrested after bringing gun to Cheraw middle school, sheriff says

CHERAW, S.C. — A student at a middle school in Cheraw had a gun on the campus grounds Friday, according to the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office.

It happened at Long Middle School. The sheriff’s office says the student was found with a gun and taken into custody.

The sheriff’s office didn’t say if the student threatened anyone or how the gun was discovered.

Sheriff Cambo Streater said, “We are confident that the issue has been resolved and there is no additional threat to the school, teachers, or students.”

The student wasn’t identified, and their age wasn’t given.
