Surveillance pictures released of suspect in Midnight Diner shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are asking the public to help identify a man accused of shooting another man at the busy Midnight Diner in South End.

Officers were called to the popular diner around 5:30 a.m. July 31 and were told that a customer and the suspected shooter got in a fight in the parking lot of the business.

Investigators said the shooter pulled out a gun and shot the victim multiple times.

During the altercation, the victim and suspect got into a struggle and the victim ran away, police said.

Another Midnight Diner customer drove the victim to Novant Health Presbyterian hospital in a Maserati. The victim is expected to recover from his injuries.

Police believe the victim and suspect did not know each other.

The suspect is described as a skinny black male with a goatee and short dreads. He drove off in a black, 4-door sedan with bright headlights and a left front tire that appears to be a spare tire or missing a hub cap, according to police.
