York County Sheriff’s Office deputies were assisting the Clover Police Department in locating the suspect, who had fled from Clover officers earlier that morning. Sheriff’s deputies had also received information that the suspect had recently made threats to self-harm.
A deputy located the suspect and initiated a traffic stop, but the suspect refused to comply with commands before colliding with the deputy’s patrol vehicle and driving away. The brief vehicular chase ended when the suspect crashed a convertible Corvette into a ditch in a residential yard along Lloyd White Road.
As deputies gave commands for the suspect to exit the wrecked vehicle, the suspect pointed a firearm toward a deputy. Two deputies fired their weapons, striking the suspect and officers immediately rendered medical aid once the scene was secured.
No deputies were physically injured in the incident. In accordance with York County Sheriff’s Office policy, Sheriff Tony Breeden requested SLED to conduct the investigation into the shooting and the involved deputies were placed on paid administrative leave.
All further information regarding the case will be released by SLED.
