Swimming advisory issued for portion of Surfside Beach

SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. — A temporary swimming advisory has been issued for a portion of Surfside Beach in South Carolina for a high bacteria reading.

Department of Health and Environmental Control officials said the area affected is at 16th Avenue North.

"Routine sampling yielded a 645 CFU/100ml at WAC-030,” said DHEC representative Sean Torrens.

Officials did not say what was causing the high bacteria reading.
