AVERY COUNTY, N.C. — Avery Co. Officials said a teenager drowned in Banner Elk on Monday night.
The drowning happened around 7:30 p.m. near the Mill Pond along Highway 184.
Police said the teenager, who is from Banner Elk, was found below the spillway.
Investigators told Channel 9 that they are still trying to determine why the teenager was in that area.
