MATTHEWS, N.C. — Comic books, board games and craft beer collide at this new venture in Matthews. The Temple’s Edge is in its soft opening at 189 N. Trade St. — formerly part of Matthews Ballroom & Events.
A grand opening is planned for Sept. 10.
“We’re just kind of letting people discover what we’re doing,” says Rob Jacik.

He’s teamed up with Rebel Base Comics & Toys owner Troy Hasbrouck on Temple’s Edge. The roughly 2,000-square-foot space builds on game nights at Carolina Beer Temple as well as a series of successful pop-up events with Rebel Base — a fixture in Charlotte since 1994.
“We already know there is an audience for it in downtown Matthews. Now they’re telling their customers we have a permanent pop-up,” Jacik says. “It’s just a perfect fit for us.”
