CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Shriners from around the world will convene in Charlotte to install the organization’s newest Imperial Potentate during a weeklong event in July.
During July 4 festivities, the Shriners will conduct a parade through the streets of uptown Charlotte and will include bands, motor corps and clowns.
According to a statement issued by Visit Charlotte, the Imperial Session is expected to draw in more than 15,000 visitors.
“The Charlotte hospitality community is extremely excited about Shriners International bringing their 138th Imperial Session to Charlotte. Having these 15,000 attendees is a great honor and obviously will be a great benefit to our hospitality- and tourism-related businesses,” said Mike Butts, the executive director of Visit Charlotte.
The new Imperial Potentate, Alan Madsen, is a Charlotte business leader. He is set to become the highest-ranking Shriner for the 2012-2013 term.
