DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Town of Davidson is joining a growing list of communities reversing course on the I-77 South toll lane project.
Davidson leaders are expected to vote Wednesday night to reinstate the project at the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization meeting.
Davidson joins Cornelius, Huntersville, Monroe and the City of Charlotte in flipping their previous positions and supporting the I-77 South toll lanes.

Several of those communities had previously gone on the record opposing the project. But local leaders have faced the possibility of repaying millions of dollars to the North Carolina Department of Transportation if the project did not move forward.
Davidson Mayor Rusty Knox said he is struggling with the decision.
“It’s a hard pill to swallow,” Knox said. “I’m going to be honest with you. I don’t believe in this project.”
After Charlotte’s vote Tuesday night, enough support has been secured to bring the I-77 South toll lane project back at Wednesday night’s CRTPO meeting.
